Al fresco lunch options

Sometimes you need a break from the city without actually having to leave the city. That is exactly what you can expect at these superb green oases, which also serve a good lunch.

Exciting and healthy at Murni

Murni, which means pure in Indonesian, has several branches all over Antwerp but the greenest one (and you can take this quite literally) is in Park Den Brandt in Wilrijk. Take a fascinating walk through nearby Middelheim Museum, after which you sit down to one of Murni’s inspiring salads, exciting sandwiches or trendy sweets. Always healthy and vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free for the most part.

Kidsproof pleasures at Café Kamiel

At the entrance to idyllic Hof van Leysen, you’ll find the cosy terrace of Café Kamiel, the local watering hole and a very kid-friendly café. Enjoy a refreshing pint with a snack, some of their home-baked goodies, or the special of the day. Every Thursday evening, they also serve all-you-can eat spaghetti.

Fresh from the oven at Nives

Can you think of a more beautiful setting? The Nives micro bakery recently opened its doors in the 19th century festival hall and orangery in Harmoniepark. A great place for take out but you can also eat in and enjoy their excellent breakfast and brunch options. Think tasty sourdough sandwiches, delicious cakes and good coffee, which are served inside or on their sun-drenched terrace.

Daydreaming at De Broers van Julienne

Here’s a fine example of a hidden gem. The home base of many a local vegetarian is tucked away on busy Kasteelpleinstraat, with a lovely garden as a bonus feature. De Broers van Julienne have been creating delicious savoury and sweet fare with vegetables and tofu here for several decades. And yes, you will lose all sense of time in their garden. Their second branch in IJzerenwaag is also worth checking out.

Armchair travel at Take 5 minutes in Paris

Why travel when you can feel on top of the world in this secret garden? Find a comfy chair, order a coffee and a slice of cake, and enjoy a good book, far away from the city bustle. Or how about a fresh sandwich, a bowl of home-made soup, or a hotdog with sauerkraut? Take 5 minutes in Paris.

Rivierenhof, epicureans hotspot

Rivierenhof is located in the middle of Antwerp's largest park. A beautiful setting for a cosy breakfast, dinner with friends or family, or a romantic dinner. French-Belgian dishes predominate here. There is plenty of choice for children.

Fenix x Capital: fine dining in the City park

Not a traditional restaurant, but a blend of traditional cooking techniques and modern creativity. The menu includes flambéed Provençal mussels, lost vegetables in salt crust, and berloumi & roasted butternut.
