Design in Het Steen
In Het Steen, the city’s oldest building, you’ll find a Visitor Centre, a rooftop terrace with panoramic views and The Antwerp Story – an interactive experience that tells the story of Antwerp.
In addition to the history of the city, its neighbourhoods and its famous residents, you’ll also discover groundbreaking work by Antwerp-based designers and entrepreneurs. Discover products and concepts that originated in Antwerp and are having an international impact today. This work fits perfectly with the entrepreneurial spirit that has characterised Antwerp for centuries.
The four projects selected demonstrate how Antwerp-based designers are experimenting with sustainability, technology, mobility and new forms of user experience. The selection was curated by ANTWERP. POWERED BY CREATIVES, the community for and by creative entrepreneurs.
ecoBirdy
ecoBirdy makes high-quality products, ranging from children's furniture to tableware, out of recycled plastic waste. This Belgian brand developed its own method for transforming discarded materials, such as plastic toys and household appliances, into sustainable and aesthetically pleasing objects with a distinct identity. For ecoBirdy, design is not only about form and function, but also about materials and circular innovation. Their work is exhibited internationally.
NIGHTFALL
NIGHTFALL is an Antwerp-based platform that sits at the crossroads of fashion, erotica and design and was founded by Filip Arickx (A.F. Vandevorst) and Eveline Rigouts. Through its luxurious erotic objects, the brand explores how aesthetics, technology and sensuality come together in a new generation of design products. Based in Antwerp, NIGHTFALL is creating a new category within the luxury industry, in which eroticism is treated as a cultural and design object in its own right.
Stock Antwerpen
Stock gives discarded tableware a new lease of life by sandblasting old plates, re-glazing them and firing them to create tableware that is both contemporary and high-quality. The Antwerp-based label combines circular production with social entrepreneurship, thanks to a partnership with Stroom Maatwerk. With their unique, affordable tableware, the Stock team demonstrates how sustainability, craftsmanship and design can enhance one another.
Sumura
Sumura develops smart and secure charging infrastructure for electric bicycles that is targeted at businesses, residential projects and urban mobility. This Antwerp-based start-up combines technology, design and data to make charging e-bikes simple, safe, and efficient – without the need for separate adapters or battery swaps. With its scalable solutions, Sumura aims to play its part in ensuring that cities become more sustainable and bike-friendly.
