A vintage caravan and industrial installations at De Blikfabriek in Hoboken, Antwerp.

Blikfabriek

Blikfabriek

On the outskirts of Antwerp, in Hoboken, lies the Blikfabriek – a former industrial site that is now a hive of creativity and experimentation. Inside the old factory buildings, creators, entrepreneurs and organisations find space to test out ideas, collaborate and launch new projects. Why not come and take a look?

From a place of industry to a haven of creativity

The Blikfabriek is breathing new life into an abandoned factory site. The raw architecture, large open spaces and industrial atmosphere make the old Crown site a special place in the city. On the 30,000 m² site, you’ll constantly discover new initiatives, temporary projects and surprising collaborations.

Where different worlds come together

In the Blikfabriek, you'll find an eclectic mix of creative entrepreneurs, cultural organisations, social projects and neighbourhood initiatives. Exhibitions, performances, workshops and events take place there on an alternating basis. The resulting mix creates an open and dynamic atmosphere in which creators, visitors and local residents come together.

What can you do at the Blikfabriek?

Don't expect it to be a typical tourist attraction. As locations go, it's actually rather unusual for Antwerp, where you can wander around freely and always discover something new. Things you can do there include:

  • checking out an exhibition, event or workshop
  • seeing creators at work in studios and workspaces
  • enjoying a drink in the cosy courtyard
  • playing sports on the site, including indoor padel and football fields, a skate park and an adventure course
  • hiking in the Blikvelden, the green nature reserve surrounding the site

Discover a different side of Antwerp

The Blikfabriek is a real-life example of how former industrial sites can be transformed into vibrant gathering places. If you'd like to discover Antwerp from a different perspective, you'll find a creative and unique atmosphere there that's constantly evolving.

Tip: Combine your visit with a walk in the nearby Hobokense Polder.
