From centuries-old monument to visitor centre
Het Steen has a history spanning more than 800 years and has changed shape several times throughout the centuries. Its most recent renovation builds on this rich history, bringing the old and the new together.
The works began in 2018. The historic building was restored, while the 1950s extension was replaced by a new structure. With its new tower and panoramic rooftop terrace, Het Steen has gained a renewed presence along the Scheldt and in the cityscape.
Since autumn 2021, Het Steen has been open again as an important gateway to Antwerp. Today, it is home to the Visitor Center, The Antwerp Story, the cruise terminal and a freely accessible panoramic rooftop terrace overlooking the Scheldt.
