A melting pot of cultures and cuisines
Located in the north of the city but close to the city centre, Het Noord is a melting pot of cultures and influences. Wander the district's streets and experience a vibrant mix of residents from a diverse range of backgrounds. From youngsters playing basketball on De Coninckplein to families with young children in playgrounds and people wearing colourful African robes, Het Noord is a place where the whole world comes together.
Once described as ‘challenging’, this neighbourhood has emerged in recent years as a cosy, folksy place where it's great to hang out. And going from one highlight to the next is very easy on foot (or by bike).
A culinary journey around the world
Did you know that as many as 173 nationalities live in Antwerp? The rich culinary offerings in Het Noord reflect that versatility. Stroll through the Handelstraat neighbourhood and you'll discover a colourful mix of small shops with exotic delicacies on sale. From fragrant African spices to fresh Asian vegetables and tasty Middle Eastern dishes, the possibilities are endless. Whether you fancy a tagine, calamari, or a tasty Turkish pizza ... Het Noord has something for everyone.
Park Spoor Noord
This former railway site is now a popular green space. On a sunny day, it seems as if the entire city is here enjoying sports, games or some peace and quiet on the vast green meadows here. In the warm months of the year, the summer bar is the hot spot for a drink in the sun, while children and youngsters can spend hours of fun in the fountains and water features. Be sure to admire the street art as well, or marvel at the tricks shown by the skaters.
Parkbrug
The Park Bridge is one of the most photographed spots in Antwerp. This iconic bridge connects Park Spoor Noord with the trendy Eilandje. Walk or cycle your way across the bridge and enjoy the impressive play of light and shade, especially in the early morning or in the evening.
Local atmosphere in brown cafés
Its folksy feel is one of the reasons to explore Het Noord and one of the area's typical brown cafés is the perfect place to sample the area's atmosphere. Beer lovers can get their fill at the Beerlovers Bar, with 12 beer taps dispensing different beers each time and 300 bottled beers, including lots of non-alcoholic alternatives. At Café Kiebooms, you can enjoy the unusual interior of an original 1950s jazz club. Café Zigzag and Café Commercial, where the food is truly great, also play their part in creating the special atmosphere that is typical of Het Noord.
Concerts by global artists
Those who love music will be right at home in Het Noord. Here you will find two iconic concert temples: the Sportpaleis and the Lotto Arena, where the biggest celebrities perform. Prefer to discover emerging artists? Trix is the ideal place for those who are fans of alternative music, while at De Roma, you can enjoy some brilliant acts in an equally impressive 1930s interior. Or would you rather go dancing? DIVE is a new event venue with its own nightclub.
Art and culture
Het Noord is not your average neighbourhood – and that's noticeable due to the arts and culture that flourish there. No classic museums here, but surprising locations that will excite your creativity. DIVE is not only a nightclub, but also a special venue for immersive art experiences, with 360° projections, interactive elements and an impressive VR experience.
