Fantastic view of the interior of The Stock Exchange in Antwerp

Stock Exchange

Stock Exchange

The Stock Exchange was built in 1531, as the Old Exchange on Hofstraat had become too small. It was the first exchange ever built specifically for this use, and became the model for other exchanges all over the world. The building has been beautifully restored and the ground floor is open to the public. Come take a look, grab a bite to eat or attend an event!

The Stock Exchange was opened in 1531 to replace the old stock exchange in Hofstraat. The building, which was designed by the Antwerp architect, Domien De Waghemakere (1460-1542), burnt down on two occasions, in 1583 and 1858. After the last fire the Stock Exchangeor Handelsbeurs was rebuilt in a rather opulent neo-Gothic style.

Restoration

After losing its function as a stock exchange in 1997, the building stood vacant for 20 years. Following a thorough restoration, visitors can once again enjoy the impressive interior. In the Handelsbeurs itself, you can take part in all kinds of fun events, enjoy restaurant Fiera's world-class fare, and you can round off your visit with an overnight stay at the luxury hotel Sapphire House.

Sample the world on your plate in restaurant Fiera

Restaurant Fiera is located in the adjoining Schippersbeurs, where skippers came to trade their wares. The dishes served here still tell the stories of a place where influences from across the globe have always converged. Take a 'tasting journey around the world' while enjoying the unique surroundings.

Free access

The ground floor with its beautiful central square is open to the public from Saturday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 17:00. Open the stately doors and admire the imposing architecture. The upper floors can only be admired during an exhibition.  Be sure to keep an eye on the website for future exhibitions and events.
