Over the coming years, the Dry Docks will grow into a maritime destination where heritage, water, and city life meet. The site's distinctive industrial character will remain, while new experiences bring a renewed impetus. Soon, you'll be able to watch ship restorers at work, discover historic vessels, help maintain them, join camps and workshops, or simply enjoy a stroll along the waterfront. And who knows, on a warm summer's day, you might even find yourself taking a dip in one of the impressive docks.
A vision for the future
What can you expect?
- The site's raw, open character will be preserved, offering plenty of space to enjoy the fresh air.
- A vibrant new destination will take shape, where young people, artists, and craftspeople come together in maritime workshops and creative spaces.
- Historic ships will keep Antwerp's maritime story alive, making it visible and tangible for future generations.
- The impressive docks and industrial atmosphere will provide a unique setting for events, cultural activities, and new ways to experience life on the water.
- In short, the Dry Docks will become a major new urban park.
In 2022, the masterplan for the site was developed by Atelier Kempe Thill, together with LAND (landscape design) and Origin (heritage restoration).
