Romantic riverside spots along the Scheldt, from the maritime Eilandje district to the lively Zuid neighbourhood: Antwerp is brimming with green spaces where city and nature meet. Want to soak up some green city vibes? Discover Antwerp’s urban parks!
Park Spoor Noord
Urban fun in the north
Park Spoor Noord is the ultimate hotspot in the north of the city. In summer, children can splash around in the fountains and burn off some energy in the play areas while parents relax on deck chairs with a drink and a slice of pizza in hand. The expansive lawn is perfect for sports, picnics, and soaking up the sun. Watch skaters and rollerbladers show off their skills at the skate park before walking across the scenic Parkbrug bridge to the Eilandje district.
Tip: On Damplein, you’ll find cosy cafés and restaurants like Barrio and Zeppelin.
Droogdokkenpark
Spectacular views of the Scheldt
The small but charming Droogdokkenpark is a stone’s throw from the Red Star Line Museum in the Eilandje district. Enjoy impressive views of the Scheldt bend, the skyline, and the Port Authority Building. It’s the perfect spot for a breezy walk or relaxing with a good book.
Tip: Come at sunset for the best golden-hour photos.
Scheldekaaien
Romantic stroll along the water
The newly renovated Scheldekaaien docks are perfect for a relaxing walk with friends, family, or a date. The views of the Scheldt and Linkeroever neighbourhood are breathtaking. Children can play on the playgrounds, sports enthusiasts can work up a sweat on the outdoor fitness equipment and basketball courts, and joggers can enjoy a scenic route through the park.
Tip: Grab a take-away pizza and some drinks in the city centre and treat yourself to a picnic on the mooring posts along the water.
Galgenweel
Water, wind, and wide-open views
The Galgenweel is a large lake on the opposite side of the Scheldt. Walk around the water’s edge and take in the panoramic views of Antwerp’s skyline. On clear days, you can watch wakeboarders and windsurfers skim across the water. Up for a unique way to reach the Linkeroever neighbourhood? Take the iconic pedestrian tunnel (known locally as the Voetgangerstunnel) with its authentic wooden escalator.
Tip: Turn your walk into a longer adventure with a trip to the Middenvijver and Het Rot nature reserves.
Zuidpark
A lively green escape in Het Zuid
Zuidpark is Antwerp’s newest park. Once a car park, it is now a long, green oasis with water play areas, a pergola, and lots of spots to sit and relax. The park is lined with cafés, restaurants, FOMU Photo Museum Antwerp, the Museum of Contemporary Art (M HKA), and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA).
Tip: Continue walking to Nieuw-Zuid and take in the modern architecture in this new district.
