Antwerp has five iconic churches within walking distance of each other. The Cathedral of Our Lady, Saint Paul's Church, Saint Andrew's Church, Saint Charles Borromeo Church and Saint James' Church are treasure troves of art and cultural heritage. You can visit 2 of these churches for free. Children (-18 years) can visit all churches free of charge.
Saint James' Church
The university district is home to one of the largest churches in Antwerp. The Saint James' Church is known as the starting point for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and the burial chapel of Rubens. The foundation stone of the present church in Brabant Gothic style was laid in 1491. The church was only completed 175 years later.
Admire the striking pulpit, beautiful stained-glass windows, numerous statues of saints and paintings, including a masterpiece by Jacob Jordaens. The altarpiece 'Madonna surrounded by Saints' was created by Rubens.

Saint Andrew's Church
The popular Saint Andrew's neighbourhood is known as Antwerp's fashion district and is home to the Saint Andrew's Church. Augustine monks built this late Gothic church in the early 16th century.
The colourful stained-glass windows, the monument to Mary, Queen of Scots, the 17th-century high altar, the precious reliquary of the 36 saints and a wonderful pulpit from 1821 are the eye-catchers here.
